Grave Matters

Nowadays everything is going green, even funerals.

GREEN FUNERALS: Putting Aside Embalming And Tombs.

The Promessa Foundation
takes organic burial a step further...

The corpse is freeze-dried in liquid nitrogen, then vibrated until it breaks down into an organic powder, and then, in a vacuum chamber, the water is evaporated away.

The resulting dry powder is ready to be laid in a biodegradable (mulch able) coffin. In about 6-12 months time, the coffin and it's contents become compost.

Freeze-dried people make good mulch.

The end.

I think all of this is just going to far. And now I think my face is turning green thinking about that whole freeze-drying process.

Yuck!

phoenix: I'm thinking that I don't want to end up like a jar of instant coffee.

jill: lol. Carbon to carbon. Your descendants can wear you in perpetuity.

nanc: You must be a Charlton Heston
fan ;-)

angel: Really. This is strange, indeed.

tmw: Um, instant coffee and MRE's?
Just add water to reconstitute.

Err, I'm sorry, I'm really not getting this.

What's wrong with the good old "dust to dust" method.

Are they not aware that bodies decompose of their own accord, in a delightfully environmentally friendly manner? With no chemical interventions or energy use required?

Anything to make a buck I suppose; a lot of suckers out there.
